Bio:

I was born in 1975 to a Southern Baptist youth minister and a musically talented vocalist [see family pic here]. At the start of his memoir, "Angela's Ashes", Frank McCourt said of his miserable childhood that "the happy childhood is hardly worth your while." Mine was simply uneventful, and therefore largely unremembered by me.

I attended elementary, middle and the first two years of high school at Parkway Christian Academy. I then transferred and subsequently graduated from E.B. Erwin High School. The entirety of my remaining education has come from the school of life, which is largely due to my auto-didactic nature.

I work for a living and live on Highland Avenue in the Southside of Birmingham, AL. I have played guitar for 15 years, and used to play in bands; but nobody you would have heard of. I have wanted to be writer since I was a young boy, but recently discovered how crappy I am which drained most of the fun from it for a while. Now, I am coming back to writing softly and slowly, and beginning to enjoy it again.

I am an avid reader, mostly fiction with the occasional non-fiction book thrown in. I enjoy film and music in a wide variety of types, though never all of any one thing; I am just as likely to enjoy a quiet, introspective drama as I am a loud, brash action movie, provided that both are well made. Similarly, I enjoy power-pop and jazz in sometimes equal measures. I enjoy playing around with new toys on the web, though this is a pass-time that I am trying to curb, as it sometimes interferes with my general enjoyment of the Internet.

I am fascinated by belief and religion and the role they play in people's lives. I am also fascinated by the gaudy perversions that these things can become in certain circumstances and the varied methods that people use to try to force others to believe as they do. I am fascinated by the places where technology, commerce and politics collide head on with each other. I am fascinated by the methods, both lo and hi tech, that people use to keep themselves organized. I am fascinated by the different ways people manipulate technologies into new and useful forms and functions. I am fascinated by efficient design. I am also fascinated with just about anything d.i.y.
